The Net Untangled is a weekly column looking at the Internet side of the Radio Industry. You can read the Introductory column for a look at how to approach site design, and how to think critically about your site’s presentation.
We took a look, last week, at the reasons why someone might consider getting into web design, even if their main goal is to make it on the programming side of radio. This week will be a good example of why that’s a good idea. Morning shows always want updated websites. If you want to start working on the morning show – offer to be their webmaster – it’s a great way to get your foot in the door.
Morning Show Websites
Having been a major market morning show producer, I am well familiar
with the battle between a morning show and the station. While the
ideal situation is for the morning show and the station to be part of
the same group, the structure of how they are treated inevitably leaves
a little bit of separation.
The morning show wants to be its own entity. They get so much
independence over their shift, especially in comparison to the rest of
the dayparts, that they view their world almost as a station unto
itself. The station views the morning show as the flagship and an
extension of its brand, but at best, the first among equals.
